William Richard Mooza, Sr., 79, of Columbia, died Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Rockville General Hospital. Born December 30, 1938, in Providence, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late William Basil Mooza and Ruth Irene (Roberts) Mooza. Bill was a graduate of Baldwin High School, in Baldwin, New York, and the University of Vermont, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and played on the football team. After college, Bill served with distinction in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. Bill worked his entire career as a self-employed sales representative for numerous American furniture manufacturers. He was an avid outdoorsman, who especially enjoyed hunting in the Rocky Mountains, skiing in Vermont, and fishing on Lake Champlain and in Long Island Sound. He shared these places and passions with his friends and family, who fondly recall their many adventures with him. He was an enthusiastic sports fan, rooting on the New York Giants, the Boston Red Sox, and UConn athletics. He was also a life member of the National Rifle Association of America and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Bill is survived by his daughter, Melissa Ruth Mooza, of Alexandria, Virginia, and his son, William Richard Mooza, Jr., his daughter-in-law, Kasey (Mendence) Mooza, and his granddaughter, Olivia Claire Mooza, all of Wilton, Connecticut. Services and interment will be private, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
