William S. Bailey (“Bill”), 88, of Middle Haddam, beloved husband of Betty (Randolph) Bailey, passed away peacefully Monday May 31 at Hartford Hospital. Born April 29, 1933 in Schenectady, NY, he was the son of the late Edward and Lena (Sheldon) Bailey. Bill was a graduate of Morrisville College class of 1953, and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force until October of 1955. Bill had a 45 year career as a Regional Manager in mechanical controls retiring from Landis & Gyr Powers. Bill loved dogs, and he and Betty raised several German Shepherd dogs together. He was a member of the Marlborough American Legion, and an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, and the New England Patriots. For over thirty years Bill and Betty lived on Martha’s Vineyard, where he enjoyed golfing, fishing, and especially taking visiting relatives and friends on clamming trips. Besides his wife Betty he is survived by his sons David W. Bailey and wife Beth of Coventry, John S. Bailey and wife Deborah of Columbia, son-in-law Ed Weir of Glastonbury, stepson Lyle Zweigle and wife Chris of Farmington, stepdaughter Starla McQuade and husband Rob of Lakewood CO, brother Edward Bailey of NY, and sister Betty Smith and husband Phil of NY; grandchildren Robin, Heidi, Mike, Robert, Kate, Ann, Kristin, Bobby, Lex, Tracy Kip, Misty, and Patrick; and many great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Lee Ann Weir and grandsons Michael and David. Friends may call at the Spencer Funeral Home 112 Main St. East Hampton on Sunday June 6, 2021, from 12 noon until 2:00PM. Funeral services will be held Monday June 7th at 11:00AM in the 2nd Congregational Church, 52 Middle Haddam Rd., Middle Haddam, CT. Burial will follow in Lake View Cemetery in East Hampton.
