Walter Pinto Obituary

Walter Clement Pinto, 86, of Cobalt, CT, died on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Pamela (DuBay) Pinto. Walt was born in New York City on May 25, 1938, to the late Joseph and Dolores (Mutty) Pinto. When Walt was three (3) years old his parents moved back to Old Town, Maine, where his mother’s family was from.

Walt grew up in the Old Town family home, attended schools in town and summered at the family cottage on Lake Pushaw. He attended the University of Maine in Bangor before entering the U.S. Army. He served in Alaska as a broadcaster and was the news anchor at the base television station for three years. Upon discharge he returned to Maine and worked at radio stations in Maine and New Hampshire.

By the mid 1960's Walt moved to Connecticut to continue his lifetime broadcasting career, both on-air and in management positions, at a number of stations including: WCCC; WDRC (where his on-air name originated - Kent Clark (aka, Superman); WELI; WICC; WNLC WRCH/WRCQ and WWYZ, to name several. He was instrumental in the early years of the Connecticut Schools of Broadcasting and left his mark on the graduates. In the 1980's he was a key co-musical director and staff announcer with American Standards by the Sea. Over a decade ago Walt joined Legends Radio as midday host, where he retired from several years ago.

Walt and Pam enjoyed many years of vacation traveling in the US, UK, Scotland, Germany, Austria, an unforgettable South African safari with friends, many Caribbean cruises and always yearly visits to Maine.

In addition to radio, music and reading being passions of Walt’s, he also served as an auxiliary State Police trooper for thirteen years and continued to support the CSPAAA.
