Susan C. (Applegate) Strong, 79, of South Glastonbury, widow of Curtis G. Strong, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday July 2nd. Born September 16, 1944 in New Haven she was the daughter of the late Robert and Molly (Brocket) Applegate. Susan had worked as a drafting engineer before her retirement.
She is survived by her children Curtis (Kathleen) Strong Jr. of East Hampton, Donald (Julie) Strong of VT, Stephen (Joslyn) Strong of East Hampton, Molly (Alan) Haroskewicz of Watertown, three brothers Robert Applegate of Wallingford, David Carrol of Chester, John Applegate of AZ, three sisters Marilyn Wilson of MA, Mildred Carrol of Clinton, Claire Potts of FL, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Patty Applegate.
Susan grew up in North Haven and lived in Clinton, East Hampton and South Glastonbury. She worked as a drafting engineer. Susan had many hobbies including sewing, knitting, crocheting and quilting. Cooking and baking and basket weaving were also some of her joys along with steam boating with her late husband Curt. She also enjoyed singing in the choir and playing piano. Recently, she learned to play the ukulele and played in concert for the Glastonbury senior center. She was a devout Christian and loved going to her bible study group and services at Grace and Truth Bible Chapel.
Her greatest joy in life was her friends and family and welcomed everyone into her heart and made them all feel like family and it was known by all who knew her as a sister, mom, or Grammy. She truly loved all of the people that surrounded her and always shared stories of all our accomplishments.
Funeral services will be held Thursday July 11th at 11:30AM in Hope Church 230 East High St. East Hampton. Followed by burial in the family plot in Lake View Cemetery. Friends may call at the Hope Church from 10:30AM until the time of the service. The Spencer Funeral Home 112 Main St. East Hampton has care of arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Grace and Truth Bible Chapel P.O. Box 629 Moodus, CT 06469.
