Sarah Elizabeth Montgomery
We gather today with heavy hearts but with grateful spirits, to celebrate the radiant life of Sarah Elizabeth Montgomery — a daughter, a sister, a friend, an encourager, and most of all, a beloved child of God.
Sarah was, without a doubt, the light of the world for all who had the honor to know her. Her faith in God was unshakable. Through every high and low — and there were many — she clung to the promise of Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose." Sarah not only believed that — she lived it.
Her life was a testament to the power of hope, kindness, and unwavering love. She poured herself into serving others, especially the special needs children she worked with. Her compassion was as natural as her smile — that infectious smile — that seemed to carry the light of heaven in it. Even during her hospital stays at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, when she was the one receiving care, Sarah found ways to give. She made bracelets for nurses and doctors in gratitude and taped notes of encouragement for fellow patients and donors. That was who Sarah was — selfless, thoughtful, always thinking of others, even in her hardest moments.
She loved sunflowers — fitting for someone who always turned her face toward the light. She found beauty in life’s simplest gifts: a hike in the woods, a great find while thrifting, a moment dancing freely, the laughter of friends, the love of her family.
Sarah loved deeply — her family, her friends, her God. She was the beautiful and loving daughter of Andrew and Jo Montgomery, who stood by her through every twist of her journey. She was the brave and loyal sister to Drew — a relationship marked by extraordinary love, even donating bone marrow to save his life. What a picture of courage and devotion.
And she was loved and cherished by her long-time soul-mate and boyfriend, Nick Carroll, who stood faithfully by Sarah’s side through every step of her battle with cancer. Nick’s devotion, tenderness, and strength were a source of great comfort and joy to Sarah. In him, she found unwavering support, shared laughter, and the kind of love that endures through every storm. Their bond was deep and true — a reflection of the love Sarah gave so freely and the love she inspired in return.
She was a proud niece, a beloved cousin, and a once-in-a-lifetime friend — the kind of person who, just by being herself, made you feel safe, seen, and loved.
She touched lives — not just here in her hometowns of Glen Ridge, NJ, and then Madison, CT, and most recently Colchester — but around the world. Through her TikTok videos, Sarah shared her story with courage and vulnerability, encouraging others to fight cancer, to choose hope, to keep going. She reminded us that joy is possible even in suffering, and that faith can be stronger than fear.
Sarah danced through life — not just in her years of ballet, but in her joy, her rhythm, her grace. She was an angel on earth, and now, she rests in eternal joy with our Lord and Savior — no more pain, no more suffering. Though our hearts ache in her absence, we rejoice that she is now whole, healed, and held in the arms of Jesus.
She once walked this earth as a child of God — brave and courageous, full of love and loyalty. And now she walks in paradise, where sunflowers never fade and joy never ends.
The world is better because Sarah was in it. Our lives are richer because she touched them. Her journey was faithful, her impact eternal, and her legacy indelible.
We love you, Sarah. We miss you. And we thank God for the beautiful gift of your life.
Amen.
