Russell T. Morris Sr. 64, of Colchester, beloved husband of Cheryl (Bennett) Morris passed away at his home on Wednesday Dec. 20th. Born Jan. 21, 1959 in Middletown. He was predeceased by his father Robert Morris, his mother Gloria (Biondi) Morris, and his sister Patricia Morris.
Russell grew up in East Hampton where he met his wife of 42 years, Cheryl. As a teenager he spent most of his time working on a variety of hotrod and muscle cars. After high school, he went to work for Electric Boat, graduating first in his class becoming certified in many different welding specialties. In 1988, he then went on to become the owner and operator of RTM Contracting. He was a skilled carpenter by trade. He built many homes from the ground up and in the later part of his career took great pride in creating detailed trim work. While enjoying watching his two sons grow up, he volunteered as a coach for youth baseball and soccer then becoming the “Pit Man” while they shifted gears into many years of dirt bike racing. He had a passion for fishing in Long Island Sound, spending many nights out on the water as well as taking afternoon truck rides with his dog Major.
Besides his wife Cheryl, he is survived by his two sons and their wives Russell and Kylie Morris Jr. of Colchester, Steven and Nikki Morris of Colchester, his mother-in-law Anna Marie Bennett of East Hampton, his father-in-law Gilbert (Anne) Bennett of FL, and his four beloved grandchildren Blake, Adalyn, Aiden and Piper.
Friends may call at the Spencer Funeral Home at 112 Main St. East Hampton on Thursday Dec. 28th from 5:00PM until 7:00PM.
