Robert Charles Pawlak, 84, of Hartford, formerly of East Hampton, CT, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Avery Heights in Hartford.
Robert was born on March 2, 1940, in Hartford, the son of the late Charles and Amelia (Nenorte) Pawlak. He was the beloved husband of 64 years to Nellie (Drake) Pawlak. Robert spoke with pride of his family, and his love for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Robert served his country with honor in the Army Reserves and went on to enjoy a successful career in information technology, working in the banking industry before serving the State of Connecticut until his retirement. He was known for his sharp mind and dedication to his work, but he will be equally remembered for his passions outside of the office.
A lover of the arts, Robert shared a special bond with Nellie through their shared appreciation for musicals and theater. Together, they were active members of the Goodspeed Opera House and the Bushnell, enjoying countless performances throughout the years. Robert also had a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed time in his canoe fishing or just exploring, finding peace and joy on the water. His meticulous care for his yard was well-known, particularly his pride in having the best-manicured lawn in the neighborhood, with the greenest grass and a carefully guarded arborvitae hedge, protected from the local deer.
Robert’s family remembers him for his sense of humor, quick wit, and story telling. Besides his wife Nellie, he is survived by his daughter, Karen Hagerty and her husband Drew of Waterford; his three sons, Alan Pawlak and his wife Kris Anne of East Hampton, Kenneth Pawlak and his wife Carol of Reno, NV, and Steven Pawlak and his wife Tina of North Port, Florida; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.
Robert was predeceased by his brother, James Pawlak, and his sister, Patricia Spedeliere. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and devotion to his family, as well as a lasting impact on all who knew
He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday Dec. 7th at 11:00AM in the Spencer Funeral Home 112 Main St. East Hampton followed by burial in Lake View Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Robert’s memory may be made to Epoch Arts in East Hampton or the Goodspeed Opera House.
