Philip Peeler Obituary

Philip Hamilton Peeler, 92, of East Haddam, beloved husband of Patricia (Smith) Peeler passed away peacefully at home on Monday evening January 29, 2024. Born Feb. 27, 1931 in Lynn, MA, he was the son of the late Charles and Hester (Hamilton) Peeler. Philip proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy submarine group during the Korean War. He was a survivor of the collision of the USS Roan. Upon his discharge he became the President of the Union Local 282 in New Haven UFCW. Philip was an active parishioner of St. Bridget Church in Moodus, and was a long time member of the American Legion in Moodus. Philip enjoyed going to Shagbark Lumber in East Haddam where he made many longtime friends. Among his fondest memories were the summers spent with his grandparents and many cousins in Nova Scotia.

He is survived by his wife Patricia, his two sons Ronald Peeler and wife Winifred of Moodus, Brian Peeler of East Haddam, daughter Gail O’Sullivan and husband Kevin of Old Lyme, 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and his first wife Anna (Mazurkewicz) Peeler. Friends may call at the Spencer Funeral Home 112 Main St. East Hampton on Thursday evening Feb. 1st from 5:00PM until 7:00PM. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday Feb. 2nd at 11:00AM in St. Bridget Church in Moodus, part of the St. John Paul II Parish Community. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery.
