Natale D. Malatesta, fondly known as Nino, 79, of East Hampton, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday December 21st with his family by his side. He was born on September 3rd, 1946, in Pratola Peligna, Italy. He was the son of the late Ferdinando and Armida Malatesta.
Nino was a hardworking and successful business owner of Log Homes Inc and in 1976 he started Post and Beam Homes Inc. Throughout his career he built beautiful homes, barns, additions, etc. In 1990 he was granted a United States Patent, an invention of connecting two shorter beams to create a longer beam called a scarf joint.
He enjoyed hobbies like golf, karate, tinkering in his wood shop, playing in a band in his youth, playing his guitar and spending time with his grandkids. Family and friends were very important to him.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Malatesta of 52 years and his 3 children and their spouses, Amy and Sean Peterson, Kelly and Jonathan Stangel and Nino and Sarah Malatesta. The loves of his life, his six grandkids. Kellen, Alivia, Daniel, Sophia, Lillian and Julian. They brought him the greatest joy. He is from a family of 4 siblings. Mario Malatesta (Patty), Angela Fanelli (Steve), Lucy Malatesta (Lou), Mary McVay (Paul) and many other dear friends and family.
A special thank you to the wonderful caregivers who were there for him. Caroline, Henrietta, Jen and Rosanna, we thank you so much for your support.
He will be remembered for the words he lived by. “If it is to be it is up to me!”
A celebration of life will be held at Terrazza’s Restaurant @ Quarry Ridge Golf Course. 9 Rose Hill Road, Portland, CT 06480 on Saturday January 17th at 2pm.
