Miriam Hallberg Scranton of Middle Haddam, CT passed away at home on July 6, 2022 at the age of 95. She was born on August 28, 1926 in Middle Haddam, CT to the late Elmer Walter Hallberg and May Bamberger Hallberg. Miriam was married to the late retired Middletown Deputy Fire Chief Donald R. Scranton for 45 years. She attended schools in Middle Haddam and East Hampton, CT. She worked as a secretary for the General Adjustment Bureau and Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, CT. Miriam made handmade teddy bears and taught classes on how to make them. Miriam also enjoyed playing bingo and during the pandemic, enjoyed playing zoom bingo through the East Hampton Senior Center. Miriam and her husband Don were 4-H Horse Club Leaders for many years. They had many horses, ponies, dogs, cats, sheep and goats. She enjoyed spending time at the family cottage up on Martha’s Vineyard, MA. She was a member of the Chatham Historical Society, Middletown AARP 3394 and the Second Congregational Church of Middle Haddam. Miriam was predeceased by her parents, husband and grandson David Scranton. She was also predeceased by her brothers: Walter, Frederick and Robert Hallberg. She is survived by her three children: Michael Scranton(Denise) of Middle Haddam, Kathleen Reinholtz (George) of East Hampton and Daniel Scranton(Gail) of East Hampton. Eight grandchildren: Ryan Scranton (Colleen), Erin Pitrone (Tony), Kevin Scranton (Mari), Nicole Supinski ( Kevin), Gretchen Douglas (Evan), Donald Scranton (Ekaterine), Heidi Scranton and Kacey Reinholtz. And eight great-grandchildren: Carter and Mackenzie Douglas, Logan, William and Hunter Supinski, Anthony and Jack Pitrone and Kaylee Scranton. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be Saturday September 17th at 10:00AM in the 2nd Congregational Church in Middle Haddam. Burial will follow in the family plot in Union Hill Cemetery.
