Maxine Rittman Obituary

Maxine “Mickey” J. (Johnson) Rittman, 92, of East Hampton, passed away peacefully at her home on May 11, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 27, 1932, she was the daughter of the late John Johnson and Katherine Johnson Ingram of Cobalt. Maxine was raised in Cobalt alongside her fourteen siblings. She is survived by four of them: her brothers Charles “Roy” Johnson of East Hampton, Carl “Butch” Johnson of Higganum, Gary Johnson of Florida, and her sister Joyce Grenier of Portland. On March 25, 1950, Maxine married the love of her life, Donald R. Rittman. Together, they shared more than 56 wonderful years and raised five children. She was deeply devoted to her husband and family, and her life was a testament to love, strength, and selflessness. She leaves behind a son, Donald R. Rittman Jr. and his wife, Sheila, of Berlin; a son, Bruce Rittman of East Hampton; a daughter, Pam Weir and her husband, Ronald, of Cobalt; a daughter, Tami Fraulino of East Hampton; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Rittman of Cromwell. Maxine was a proud grandmother to Dene Rittman (Sarah) of North Carolina; Justin Rittman of Florida; Jody Rittman of Cromwell; Shannon Stockburger (Jason) of Marlborough; Rebecca Thayer (Scott) of Hebron; RJ Weir (Audrey) of New Britain; Rachael Weir (Adam) of Stamford; Joey and Krista Fraulino of East Hampton; Nicholas Fraulino (Hailey) of Ledyard; and Elizabeth Britney of Middle Haddam, whom she lovingly regarded as a granddaughter. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Jason, Makayla, and Lizzie Rittman; Talan and Kayl Stockburger; Kinsley and Leira Guidicelli; Graham Marinelli Weir; and Cash Fraulino. Maxine’s memory will be cherished by a large extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws, including Brenda Byers-Britney, who visited Maxine every Saturday morning. Maxine was predeceased by her husband, Donald R. Rittman; her beloved son, Kenneth Rittman; her grandson, Jason Rittman; and her granddaughter, Brittany Weir. Maxine’s warmth, resilience, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a constant source of comfort and joy—always ready to share a cup of tea, a good story, and a game show or hallmark movie. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. We would like to thank Middlesex Health Palliative Care and Middlesex Hospice Care at Home for taking great care of Mickey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Middlesex Health Hospice Program, East Hampton Volunteer Ambulance Association, or ALS www.als.org.
