Mary Catherine Hamel, 92, of East Hampton died peacefully on Saturday April 24th at Chestelm Health and Rehabilitation in Moodus. Born April 21, 1929 in Plainfield, VT, she was the daughter of the late Wayland and Albina (Buley) Hamel. Mary grew up in Vermont and proudly served her country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where she worked as a clerk in the Pentagon in Washington DC. Mary retired from the U.S. Post Office where she worked as a clerk and a sorter after 25 years. Mary was a member of the 3rd Connecticut Regiment Ancient Fife and Drum Corp. of East Hampton. She was an avid Hartford Whalers Fan, Boston Red Sox fan and New Britain Red Sox Fan. She enjoyed tag saleing, knitting and crocheting. She is survived by her three daughters Albina Wright (Dave) of MO, Tish Jacobson of East Hampton, Mary Frances Ballelli of PA, a brother Arnold Hamel of AZ, a sister Letitia Rydjeski of VT, 4 grandchildren Michael Jacobson (Tammie), Keith Jacobson (Margo), Erika Williams (Todd), Vanessa Johnson, 2 step grandchildren Will Wright (Jessica), Dawn Perry, and 12 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Anson Hamel. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Chestelm for the loving care they gave to Mary. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held Tuesday May 18, 2021 at 2:00PM in the Ct State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, CT.
