Martin Lopez, 79, of Colchester, beloved husband of Constance “Connie” Markham, passed away Sat. July 13th at the Veteran’s Hospital in West Haven. Born July 12, 1945 in Los Angeles, CA of Mexican American descent he proudly served his country in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. Upon returning he worked as a Prison Guard and then as a salesman for a copier company. Martin was a member of the East Hampton VFW Post, and the Golden Age Games for Veteran’s, where he competed for over 23 years in a different state each year, winning many medals for his efforts. His family would like to thank the Colchester and East Hampton Stop and Shop Stores, Noel’s IGA in Colchester and Ted’s IGA in Hebron for their kindness and support of Martin’s fund raisers. Besides his wife Connie he is survived by his sons Adam Gilmore (Jenny) of MN, Joe Ryan , Chris Lopez , Andy Ryan of CA, Step daughter Debra Wescott (Dave) , two brothers and four sisters in CA, and his 12 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Spencer Funeral Home 112 Main St. East Hampton on Wednesday July 31st from 10AM until 12 noon. A Memorial service will take place at 12 Noon followed by burial with Military Honors in Skinnerville Cemetery in East Hampton.
