Marie I. (Pouyat) Miller, 97, of East Haddam, widow of the late Philip E. Miller, died Saturday Dec. 12th at her home with her family by her side. Born Dec. 2, 1923 in Manhattan, NY , she was the daughter of the late Francis and Rebecca Louise (Walcott) Pouyat. Marie, a member of “The Greatest Generation”, married her husband Philip in New York City in 1944, and they lived in Holyoke, MA until 1955 moving to Shelton and then Derby, CT, in 1959. They moved to East Haddam, CT, in 1989 where she resided until her passing. Marie received her BA from Southern CT State College and worked as an Administrative Assistant for Consumer Reports Auto Test Department, first in Milford and then in Colchester, CT. She enjoyed giving the small sized driver perspective on cars being evaluated. Marie retired in 1998, became active in watercolor painting, and made many friendships with other artists. Marie was a great lover of reading and books; after retirement, she worked part time at Rathbun Free Memorial Library in East Haddam. She is survived by her two daughters Karen Kramer (Harold) of Cheshire, CT, Nancy Davies (Bryn) of Bournemouth, England, two granddaughters Anna and Ruth Kramer, three brothers Francis Pouyatt, Joseph Pouyatt and Frank Pouyat, and many nieces and nephews and their families. A PRIVATE burial will be in the family plot in St. Bridget Cemetery in Moodus, CT.
