Joyce Olivo Obituary

Joyce (Carlano) Olivo, 89, of East Hampton, beloved wife of James Joseph “Jim” Olivo, passed away on September 13th, 2025, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born July 10th, 1936, in Middletown, New York, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore Carlano and Palma Cito. Joyce graduated from Sacred Heart of Mary high school in 1954 and continued her education at secretarial school. She first worked at St. Barnabas hospital in Bronx, New York, where she was the executive assistant to the president of the hospital. She then worked at Lenox Hill Hospital where she was the executive assistant to the vice president of the hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim on April 16th, 2017. Joyce and Jim grew up in the same apartment building in the Bronx. When Jim enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War, Joyce’s mother suggested she write to him, and thus, their love story began. They were married on October 4, 1958. In 2009, Joyce and Jim moved to East Hampton, Connecticut, and settled in the community of Laurel Ridge, where they made many wonderful friends. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Pamela Farrington of Marlborough, three sons James Olivo and wife Susan of New York, New York, Kenneth Olivo of New Haven, Connecticut, Mark Olivo of Smithtown, New York, and nine grandchildren Nicholas, Matthew, Lauren, Emma, Jonathan, David, Ava, Luke, and Ella. Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend, follower of Christ, and fan of the New York Yankees. She loved reading, spending time with her grandchildren, doing daily yoga, and enjoying a glass of her favorite red wine. She was married to the man she loved for fifty–nine years, and together they raised a family, doted on their grandchildren, traveled the world, and touched the lives of many people.
