Janet (Crawford) Nichols, 84, of East Hampton, beloved wife of Eugene Nichols passed away peacefully on Thursday Feb. 10th at Marlborough Health and Rehab. Born July 1, 1937 in Bennington, VT, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Pearl (Smith) Crawford. Janet was raised in Marlborough and moved to East Hampton. She was a graduate of East Hampton High School and UCONN with a Master’s Degree in Education. She furthered her studies at UCONN in the area of literacy. She served as a gifted reading specialist in the East Hampton School System for over 20 years and with her husband served as President of the Literacy Volunteers in Central Connecticut. Janet is survived by her husband Eugene Nichols, her sons Scott Nichols of Lebanon, Eugene G. Nichols III and his wife Jennifer of Marlborough, her three daughters Kimberly McCarthy and husband Patrick of Conway, MA, Karen Nichols and James Bendzinski of Middletown, Kathleen Bradley and her husband William of Marlborough, sister Gail Lester of Bloomfield, and her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her infant son Caleb Nichols. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the family plot in Lake View Cemetery.
