James “Jim” Edward Fitzgerald of East Hampton passed away unexpectedly on December 22, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Ann Dayton-Fitzgerald, and their three children, Ryan Fitzgerald and his wife Abby of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Kevin Fitzgerald and his wife Renee of Bend, Oregon, and Molly Buttitta and her husband Greg of Littleton, Colorado. Jim leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Maddy, Annie, and Talia Fitzgerald and Kayla and Fitzgerald Buttitta.
Born in Mt. Kisco, New York, on February 23, 1948, to Edward and Helen Fitzgerald, Jim is also survived by his twin sister Mary Whitaker and her husband Jerry of Sunset, South Carolina, and his other siblings Bill Fitzgerald and his wife Phyllis of Mahopac, New York, Virginia Smith and her husband Peter of Alsted, New Hampshire, Tom Fitzgerald and his wife Maryanne of Portland, Oregon, Eileen Freedman and her husband David of Brookfield, Connecticut, John Fitzgerald and his wife Nannette of Princeton, Massachusetts, and Margaret Peter and her husband Robert of Colchester, Connecticut, as well as his many nieces and nephews.
Jim was a graduate of St Mary’s High School in Katonah, New York, and was drafted into the United Stated Army in 1968. He served in Vietnam, where he reached the rank of Staff Sargent and received two Bronze Stars and an Army Commendation Medal. Upon his return, he graduated from Central Connecticut State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in History. He had a long and successful career at Majestic Publishing Co. before cofounding Mid State Assembly & Packaging. He later worked in the construction and building industry. Jim and Mary Ann lived in Connecticut for 47 years and had a large circle of friends. In retirement, Jim and Mary Ann enjoyed traveling and visiting their children and grandchildren.
Services for Jim with military honors will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday July 10, at the CT State Veteran's Cemetery at 317 Bow Lane in Middletown. Friends and family are invited to gather after the ceremony at the home of Bill and Pat Ziedler 65 Forest Ridge Rd. in Haddam.
