Harry W. Nilsen, 97, of Haddam Neck, widower of the late Mary (Haidet) Nilsen, passed away peacefully on April 18th at Chestelm in Moodus. Born April 21, 1927 in Middletown he was the son of the late Harry S. and Ruth (Dreilich) Nilsen of Haddam Neck. Harry graduated from East Hampton High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1950 and served in the Korean War. After his discharge , he worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford for 35 years. Harry served as Past President and Lifetime Director of the Haddam Neck Fair Association, Past President and honorary board member of the Haddam Neck Cemetery Assoc., Deacon in the Haddam Neck Congregational Church, and one of the founding members of the Haddam Neck Fire Department. Harry is survived by his son Russell Nilsen and wife Mary Ann of Box Elder, South Dakota, granddaughter, Christina Dunn, her husband Christopher Dunn and great grandson Jayden Dunn of Windsor, Maine.
A memorial Service will be held at the Haddam Neck Congregational Church on Saturday June 28th at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the Haddam Neck Congregational Church, c/o Jim Yuille, 203 Injun Hollow Rd. Haddam Neck, CT 06424. Harry’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Chestelm Health and Rehab and Middlesex Hospice for the attention and kindness shown to their father.
