George Rolland Obituary

George Louis Rolland, 75, of South Windsor, beloved husband of Deborah (Palmer) Rolland, passed away Monday April 1st at Hartford Hospital surrounded by family. Born January 22, 1949 in Northampton, MA, he was the son of the late Ernest and Marjorie (Roberts) Rolland. George grew up in East Hartford CT, moving to Marlborough in 1973. He moved to East Hampton in 2006 prior to his marriage to Deborah in 2018 when South Windsor became their home. Most of George’s career as a computer programmer was spent at the Aetna Insurance Co. in Hartford. Upon retirement he became an accountant at Cobalt Lodge Health Care of East Hampton. George was a parishioner of St. Patrick Church in East Hampton and most recently of St. Francis Church in South Windsor. He was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order, Korban Fraternity, a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus South Windsor Council.

   George was a proud longtime member of the Marlborough Volunteer Fire Department and the Roy B. Pettengill Ambulance Assoc. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout and was an enthusiastic participant in scouting throughout his life and the lives of his sons. George loved hiking. He tackled all of the Presidential Range in New Hampshire, including Mt. Washington and hiked most of the Appalachian Trail. He regularly hiked up to 3 miles per day. George volunteered at the Red Cross where he responded to disasters through FEMA rescue. He relished his pin for donating more than 20 gallons of blood.  

  George is survived by his loving wife, Deborah, his sons, Timothy Rolland and his wife Lisa and of East Hampton, Braden Rolland and his husband Jason Aguila of Atlanta, GA, his brother James Rolland and wife Joan of Bolton, his sister Lorraine Rolland of Bristol, his three granddaughters Madelyn, Valerie, Kirsten, step grandchildren Annelise and David and several cousins and extended family. Friends may call at the Spencer Funeral Home 112 Main St. East Hampton on Friday April 5th from 9:30AM until 10:30 AM. The funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 AM followed by the Funeral Liturgy at 11:00AM in St. Patrick Church 47 W. High St. East Hampton. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of CT at www.epilepsyct.com.
