Eugene Grant “Gene” Nichols II, 90, of East Hampton, widower of Janet (Crawford) Nichols passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 13th at Marlborough Health Care. Born Feb. 6, 1936 in Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late Marshall and Veronica (Cook) Nichols. Gene graduated from UCONN (with his high school sweetheart, Janet) before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army. He then became a Technical Writer at Pratt & Whitney and an Executive at International Aero Engines until his retirement. Gene was a lifelong resident of East Hampton and a member of the Belltown Sportsman Club. He was an avid outdoorsman, car enthusiast, and a devoted family man. Gene is survived by his sons Scott Nichols of Lebanon, Eugene Grant Nichols III (Jennifer) of Marlborough, daughters Kimberly McCarthy (Patrick) of Conway MA, Karen Nichols (James) of Middletown, Kathleen Bradley (William) of Marlborough, his sister Virginia (Tom) Gorin of Storrs, his eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Caleb Nichols who passed at one years old. Friends may call at the Spencer Funeral Home on Wednesday May 20th from 9:30AM until 11:00AM with a Funeral Service at 11:00AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the family plot in Lake View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Literacy Volunteers of Central CT (literacycentral.org) or Belltown Sportsman Club at belltownsportsmen.org (Markham Rd East Hampton, CT 06424) are suggested.
