Ethel M. (Johnson) Fowler, 95 of Niantic and formerly of Marlborough passed away peacefully at her home with family and hospice January 4th 2023. Born May 27, 1927 in Marlborough, CT she was the daughter of the late Gustave and Hannah (Ommel) Johnson Sr.. Ethel was a lifelong member of the Marlborough Congregational Church and had lived in Marlborough until moving to Niantic in 2003. She had served as the Marlborough Town Clerk from 1976 until her retirement in 1996 and had also served as the Tax Collector for the town from 1967 until 1975. Ethel was a founder and the first President of the Marlborough Arts Center, a member of the Hartford County town Clerks Association, and a former member and vice chairman of the Marlborough Republican Town Committee. After retirement she enjoyed many years of quilting, traveling, and outdoor activities. She is survived by her four sons Bruce Fowler of MA, Carlton Fowler (Deborah) of GA, Robert Fowler (Thea) of CA, James Fowler of Marlborough (Jan), two daughters Sharon Robinson of FL, Amy Searle (Herbert) of Old Saybrook, a brother David Johnson (Marjorie) of Marlborough, eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Susan Russo and husband William, brother Gustave Johnson Jr. and her life partner Gearhard Isaksen.
