Denton Ransom Obituary

Denton Edward Ransom, 84, of Moodus and formerly of Meriden and East Hampton, widower of the late Patricia (Griffin) Ransom passed away peacefully on Monday May 2nd at Chestelm Health and Rehab in Moodus. Born Nov. 21, 1937, in Winsted, CT, he was the son of the late Harold and Carrie (Lowsaw) Ransom. Denton proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Following his military service, he graduated from Hartford School of Hairdressing. Denton owned and operated House of Elegance Hair Salon in Meriden for over 30 years. Upon his retirement he became a sports memorabilia collector. He founded CT Sports Card Collectors Assoc. Denton went on to sell paper memorabilia, selling to museums, auction houses and antique collectors around the world. Denton loved history, old cars, and sports, especially the NY Yankees and the UCONN Women Huskies basketball team. He loved to travel with trips to Europe to see his son Gary, and spent many days with his grandsons Tim, Ben and Devin, taking them to Gettysburg, West Point, and Harper’s Ferry.

Denton is survived by his son Gary Ransom and wife Bonnie of East Hampton, his daughter Linda Ransom and her companion Joseph LeCara of East Hampton, his grandchildren Benjamin and Devin Graham, and his three great grandchildren Silas, Eli and Remi. He was predeceased by his grandson Timothy. Friends may call at the Spencer Funeral Home 112 Main St. East Hampton on Saturday May 7th from 9:30 AM until 11:30 AM with a service At 11:30.
