Daniel Forest Palmer, 83, of Hartford and formerly of East Hampton, beloved husband of Jo Anne (Frette) Palmer, passed away and entered the arms of Jesus surrounded by his wife and daughters on Sunday, July 28 at Avery Heights in Hartford. Born September 28, 1940, in Olean, NY, he was the son of the late Walter T. Palmer Jr. and Norma (Richards) Palmer. Dan grew up in Shinglehouse, PA and then proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1958-1962. In 1964 Dan married his childhood sweetheart Jo Anne, a union that lasted 60 years. Dan studied Physics at Slippery Rock University and Aeronautical Engineering at Northrop Institute of Technology where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. He began his career as an Aerospace Engineer at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford where he worked until his retirement after 45 years of service. Dan loved airplanes, water skiing, and tinkering and designing of all sorts. He took pride in the house he designed and maintained for 50 years. But most importantly, Dan loved and dedicated his life to Jesus Christ. He, along with Jo Anne, sowed the seeds of faith still rooted in his two daughters and four grandchildren. This is his greatest legacy. Besides his wife Jo Anne, Dan is survived by his two daughters and their spouses Rebecca Gustafson and Eric of Glastonbury, Laura Kuehn and Jonathan of Higganum, a brother Richard L. Palmer and wife Cristina of Texas, and his four cherished grandchildren Andrew and Elsa Kuehn and Michael and Adam Gustafson. Dan was predeceased by his son Stephen Palmer and his brother Walter T. Palmer III. The family would like to express special thanks to Rosalie Ward, Dan’s loving and dedicated caregiver for the last 18 months as well as the staff of Hartford HealthCare at Home Hospice. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the family plot in Perry Center, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made in Dan’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
