Charles “Charlie” Amos Seagrave Jr, a beloved longtime resident of Marlborough, passed away suddenly on December 29, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on February 12, 1953, in Norfolk, VA, he was the cherished son of Jo-Ann and the late Charles A Seagrave Sr.
On December 11, 1971, Charlie married his soulmate Jane, beginning a 55-year adventure they would spend together. From the moment they met at Marlborough lake, they were inseparable…she was his partner in crime, apple of his eye and love of his life. Charlie was a unique, humble, and authentic man who valued honesty, integrity and taking care of others. He loved life, laughter, family, friends, and general mayhem.
Charlie was a self-employed HVAC Contractor, running his company Ductwork Specialties with his Son, Partner and Best Friend, Charles “Chip” A Seagrave III”. His philosophy of “a dollar’s work for a dollar’s pay” is how he built a successful business. Charlie “did what he said and said what he did”. He cared about his customers, finding solutions to their problems and arriving at a win-win for both, even if that meant being paid in haircuts and lasagna’s when someone who needed their furnace fixed was short on cash.
Charlie spent his life giving back to others. He was a proud member of the Son’s of the American Legion Post 197, the Glastonbury Elks 2202, and a two-time Past Master of Anchor Lodge #112 in East Hampton. He was not a veteran, but he served his country through his volunteerism with the American Legion. He especially looked forward to driving Veterans in the family’s convertible for local parades.
When he was not working or volunteering, Charlie loved spending time outdoors on the water, in nature or in the basement playing his drums. He was an avid boater, fisherman and camping master.
He was also a practical joker who will fondly be remembered for his creative water balloon slingshots, inner tube trains, hiding bait in pockets, potato cannons and his summer “Papa Camp” for his grandchildren.
Charlie is survived by his devoted wife, Jane, his children: Jennifer Seagrave & her husband Andrew Presti, Charles “Chip” & his wife Corinne “Corky” Seagrave and Sara & her wife Aislinn Seagrave. He is also survived by his mother Jo-Ann Seagrave, his loving siblings Christine Dolloff and Robert Seagrave, Lynn Fogg Cornelio and Sheila Fogg and his treasured three grandchildren: Stanley “Chase” Norgalis IV, Sadie Seagrave and Calleigh Seagrave.
Charlie will be remembered as a hardworking, loving family man who lived a full and meaningful life, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
