Charles Boynton Obituary

Charles E. Boynton, 81, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side after a long illness. He was raised in Cheshire, Ct and later graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a degree in Physical Education. Charlie moved to Moodus, CT in 1970 where he raised his family and built a life for nearly 55 years. He was a P.E. teacher at Nathan Hale-Ray School for 36 years as well as Athletic Director and soccer coach. As an avid sports fan and supporter of Hale-Ray athletics, when Charlie wasn’t coaching, he could be found on the sidelines of nearly every sporting event throughout the year. Charlie knew everyone’s names throughout town, coached and taught multiple generations and was always up for a friendly conversation or to reminisce about a funny story. After retirement he continued to support Hale-Ray athletics running the clock at games, watching from the sidelines and socializing with spectators and families. Charlie was a dedicated husband and father, supporting his children and grandchildren through all their endeavors. Charlie is predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Barbara and his son Jeffrey. He is survived by his son Jared Boynton and his wife Lynn Liska of Moodus, CT and his daughter Amy Zaferacopoulos and her husband Peter Zaferacopoulos of Littleton, MA. He is survived by 5 grandsons, Donovan Boynton, Alex Zaferacopoulos, Adam Zaferacopoulos, PJ Zaferacopoulos and Nicholas Boynton. Charlie is also survived by his brother Kenneth Boynton and his wife Judith, and his brother Lynwood Boynton and his wife Laurel. Visiting hours for Charlie will be at Spencer Funeral Home 112 Main Street East Hampton, CT on Friday, February 7th from 4pm – 7pm. The family will hold a private burial. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Little Noises Athletic Booster Club.
