Carl Victor Gustafson (Gus) passed away with his family by his side on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 9, 2021, at Hartford Hospital to join his beloved bride Ruthie Mae. He was born on May 13, 1939 and was a lifelong resident of East Hampton, CT.
Carl is pre-deceased by his parents Nils and Elna Gustafson, brothers John and Nils Gustafson, sisters Ebon Wylie and Doris Stevens and his son Glen Gustafson. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Jeff and Kellie Gosselin of East Hampton, Jeff and Karen Gustafson, step-son Alan Kromish, several grand and great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Carl worked at M&P Pipe Jacking before he retired and leaves many friends there as well. He might best be remembered as a man of few words, dry sense of humor and quiet demeanor but, he also had a secret sentimental side to him that he kept hidden from most. Above all, his adoration of family is foremost.
He had an unlimited passion for old cars and loved nothing more to be in his overflowing garage working on projects. Buying, selling, restoring and collecting them was a full time job for him and took great pride in everything he did.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
A graveside service will be held at the Skinnerville Cemetery on Young Street in East Hampton, CT on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 11:00AM in honor of both Carl and Ruthie.
