Audrey Ruth (Lathers) Hammond, loving wife of the late Gary W. Hammond, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026 at Chestelm Health and Rehabilitation Center in Moodus, CT. Born January 17, 1934 in Johnstown, NY, she was the daughter of the late DeVere H. and Oramay (Sweet) Lathers.
Raised in Glen, NY, Audrey met and married her husband of 57 years. They moved and raised their three sons in Charlton, NY before moving to the Townville/Simpsonville, SC area in 1986. In 2019, she relocated to CT to be closer to family.
Audrey graduated in 1955 from Keuka College with a degree in nursing. Her career included public health, rehabilitation and skilled nursing environments as a Registered Nurse.
She is survived by her son, Clifford Hammond and his wife Marilyn of East Hampton, CT; her daughter-in-law, Liana Hammond of Columbia, CT; six grandchildren, Ryan (Julie Shea) Hammond, Shannon (Ken) Hammond Irace, Patrick (Shannon) Hammond, David (Kelsey) Hammond, Dana (Bob) Chieka and Bailey Hammond; and great-grandchildren, Blake, Myles, Colton, Charlotte, Walker, Camden, Graham, Rhett, Nora and Sawyer.
She was predeceased by her sons, Dale M. and Glenn S. Hammond; her siblings, DeVere S. and Virginia M. Lathers; and grandson Connor Hammond.
Friends may call at the Spencer Funeral Home, 112 Main St., East Hampton, CT on Sunday, May 17, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. with a service to follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Maple Avenue Cemetery in Fultonville, NY on Monday, June 1, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Chestelm Health and Rehabilitation Center, 534 Town St. Moodus, CT 06469.
