Armenta J Eckels (Sidoner), of Glastonbury, beloved wife of the late James E Eckels, passed peacefully in her sleep on June 29, 2024 at The Residence at Glastonbury. Born February 5, 1929 in Des Moines, Iowa, she was the daughter of Mildred (Rohrer) and Jack Sidoner. Armenta “Micki” Eckels had lived in Simsbury, Connecticut for most of her life before moving to Hilton Head, South Carolina and then returning to Marlborough, Connecticut. Her early working career began as a model for the Younkers Department Store out of Keokuk, Iowa, and over the years Micki also worked for a variety of firms including publishing, plastics development, and pension administration. The majority of her time, however, was spent with her loving family. She spent time cooking, crafting, sewing, listening to music, and gardening. Micki is survived by her children, Jan Sousa and her husband, David of Hebron, Connecticut and James M Eckels and his wife Kathleen of Williamsburg, Virginia. She leaves behind three grandchildren Jessica Sousa, Mark Sousa and his wife Kerrin (Gallagher), Christopher Eckels and wife Ashley (Ehret). Micki also has two great grandchildren, Brynnly Eckels and Brooks Eckels. Micki was predeceased by her six siblings. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. The Spencer Funeral Home, 112 Main Street, East Hampton has care of the arrangements. Her ashes will join her husband’s at the Simsbury Cemetery on Plank Hill Road. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America.
