Roger Snell Obituary

Roger K. Snell, Sr., 86, of Moodus, CT passed away at home with his beloved wife at his side. He was a gentle and kind man with a contagious smile who believed everyone was a friend.

Roger was born in Brooklyn, NY, on January 6, 1932. The family moved from Great Neck, NY  to East Haddam in 1948. He was the son of the late Donald Morrison Snell and Priscilla Bowns  Snell.

Roger  attended The Gunnery School in Washington Depot, CT and Hale-Ray High School in East Haddam; Class of 1951. He was employed at Moodus Lumber  for 24 years until it closed in 1951. He was a loyal member of the Shagbark Lumber family for the next 18 years.  He will always be remembered for his ever present smile, generosity and his ability to brighten the day of all he encountered.

 Roger was a patriot who served in the U.S Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a longtime member of the East Haddam Volunteer Fire Department; he also served as Chief of Middlesex County Fire Police Association, a member of American Legion Post 165 and VFW Post 3336, a lifetime member of Sampson Air Force Veterans Association and a lifetime member of the East Haddam Historical Society.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife Elsie, and their two sons, Roger Snell, Jr. wife, Heather; and Donald Snell II, wife Terri; grandchildren Roger- Paul, Jessica, Hayley, Emily, Matthew, Haley, Kathryn and Wesley and a great grandson Rowan. He is also survived by his sisters, Sydney Fulford, Priscilla White and Prudence Bennett, brother-in-law William Talbot and his wife Mary Jane, along with several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend gratitude to his caregivers and to the team from Middlesex Hospice for their home care services.  Friends who wish can send memorial donations to Middlesex Hospice, 87 Crescent Street, Middletown, CT 06457.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Roger’s memory can be honored by continuing his acts of kindness that warmed the hearts of many.
