EXTRA EXTRA READ ALL ABOUT IT!
Captain Peter Wirtz, 59, passed away suddenly at home in Clinton, CT on January 10, 2019. Peter, the little German boy, spent his childhood in Manchester, Connecticut. Growing up Peter was quite the drummer, jokester, and life of the party. Peter briefly attended UCONN, and left with more friends than credits, quickly deciding the business route was more his speed.
He and his beloved wife Laura (Botting) settled down in East Hampton where they raised their daughter Jenilee (or JENIIIIII!!!!!! as Peter referred to her), and their Golden Retriever Remington Shauna Bear. He ran a successful business, Connection Technologies Inc. and also a powerful boat brokerage, Marine Sales & Service. He loved his work, always zooming around the tri-state & surrounding area to close the next deal. He traveled to China to meet with manufacturers and always came back with stories for days. Years on Block Island on the Tiki Hoy brought the family much joy, some of their best memories were made on the Salt Pond. Newport summers & Florida winters had been Laura & Peter’s recent happenings- and they wouldn’t have changed a minute. They have met some incredible friends in their journeys. Peter will be remembered for his explosive personality and generous soul.
Peter will be very missed by his parents Waltraut (Omi) Wirtz, Matthias (Opa) Wirtz and his wife Erika. Peter’s sisters Monika Lussier and Helga Beckett, and his half brother Matthias Wirtz (and Barbara Cordito) will all miss their funny Peter. His niece Morgan Lussier and nephew Dylan Beckett (and Kate Beckett) will remember his infectious smile. Peter also leaves behind Dylan & Kate’s sons- Dylan and Charlie Beckett. Laura’s brother Larry Botting, Susan Daigle, and their son Nathan will miss their crazy Uncle Peter. Laura’s foster sister Sandy Whatley and her daughter Madison will miss Peter’s vibrant personality. He is now with Laura’s sister Patricia Whatley, most likely having a grand old time. Patty’s children Meg and Tom Palermo will always remember how wild he was and will have stories to share with Meg’s children Tessa & Will. Peter & Laura recently celebrated 32 years of marriage, and have enjoyed living so close to Jenilee and Chad Porterfield on the shore while enjoying the family’s littlest love, Liberty, or LIBBY! as Peter called her. She was his latest infatuation, he spent some special afternoons babysitting her- diapers and all. If he wasn’t inside twirling Libby around, you could catch them outside, riling up Max the pup to race around the yard.
Please join the family at Spencer Funeral Home 112 Main St. East Hampton on Thursday Jan. 17th from 6-8PM. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday Jan. 18th at 10:30AM in St. Patrick’s Church and a celebration of Peter’s vibrant life at Angelico’s Lakehouse immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shatterproof Foundation www.shatterproof.org to help end the stigma, and gifts may be made to support a college fund for Liberty Mae Wirtz-Porterfield. Checks may be mailed to the Allen Financial Group 360 Bloomfield Avenue, Suite 402 Windsor, CT 06095.
