John Kostoss Obituary

John L. Kostoss, 96, of Moodus widower of the late Sophie (Rozwadowski) Kostoss passed away peacefully Tuesday Nov. 5th at Chestelm Health Care in Moodus. Born Aug. 19, 1923 he was the son of the late Martin and Catherine (Gus) Kostoss. John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of the AAF Central Flying Command. During his service he was stationed in England. He was discharged from active duty in 1945 with a rank of Corporal, and received the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with 1 Bronze and 2 Silver Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and 3 Overseas Bars. John’s job was to repair planes following missions and his buddies referred to him as the best wing man ever. John had been a Volunteer Fire Fighter in East Haddam.  Prior to his retirement from the Sibley Corp. where he worked on Circuit Boards he had been employed by Bernstein’s Plumbing and then by Moodus Lumber Yard. John was an avid NY Yankee and UCONN Women’s Basketball fan. He enjoyed working outdoors and was a devoted family man. John is survived by his two sons Donald Kostoss of Moodus, Ronald Kostoss and wife Michelle of Moodus, his step daughter Henrietta (Bielat) Manfre of Moodus, a sister Dorothy Parker of East Haddam, and his two beloved grandchildren Matthew Kostoss and Rebecca DeFreitas. He was predeceased by his three brothers Walter, Joseph and Frank Kostoss, and his three sisters Josephine Fedus, Mary Ryczek, and Gladys Kolodziej. A Funeral Liturgy will be held Tuesday Nov. 12 at 11AM in St. Bridget of Kildare Church in Moodus followed by burial in St. Bridget Cemetery with Military Honors.
